An outstanding event about the BRAZIL TECH AWARD 2019 will be hosted at the Digital Catapult Centre in London on 21st February 2019. This new and unique award aims at attracting areas of the innovation industry such as smart cities, health, Fintech, Agritech, manufacturing and creative tech.

The one-day launch event, co-organised by the LATAM TECH UK and the Embassy of Brazil in London, counts with the support of various key players in innovation. This is an opportunity to listen about the experience of six specialist scale-ups from Brazil and Europe – TransferWise, CoolTra, Avatr, Gympass, Tempest and SalaryFits. They will be sharing their lessons about the challenges of expanding abroad and all participants will be able to find out about specific aspects of scaling up in one of the world-leading tech hubs – São Paulo, Brazil. [ please see programme here]

The distinguishing feature of the Brazil Tech Award 2019 is that five shortlisted applicants will have ‘the opportunity to compete for a soft landing in a country with a buoyant market which is extremely keen on new solutions and technologies’ in the words of Sandra Sinicco, the co-founder of LATAM TECH UK. The value of the award in £70K in services provided by leading enterprises and institutions. The award winners will be based and develop the scale-up in the city of São Paulo.

The award winner will get a £70,000 prize in services such as business development and accounting by Deloitte; legal and digital marketing by Eydos digital, coaching by Sapovalova,  public relations by GrupoCASA UK , soft landing by Sterna and New Option and one-year workplace for two staff by WeWork.

Brazil ranks as the seventh top IT world market. Microsoft chose the city of São Paulo to set up its Microsoft Technology Center (MTC), the largest technology and Innovation Centre in Latin America, which was inaugurated in January 2019.

São Paulo benefits from the fact that it is the economic centre of Brazil. The fDi Intelligence, a specialist division of The Financial Times, ranked São Paulo as the top Latin American State of the Future 2018/2019. The top ranking of São Paulo took into account various important aspects for businesses such as economic potential, human capital, life style, benefit-cost ratio, connectivity and business environment.

LATAM TECH UK’s Sandra Sinicco stresses the fact that the aim of the award is to demonstrate various attractive features for companies interested in scaling up their business in the Brazilian market and to enable them to achieve extraordinary gains, which would otherwise take a long time and at a significant cost in other countries.

The procedure for granting the award will be phased. Once the application deadline expires, a jury of ten Brazilian experts will shortlist five scale-ups. The jury will announce the runner-ups on 20th September 2019. In the next phase of the contest in October, all shortlisted companies will receive free mentoring to prepare for their three-minute pitches during the BRAZIL TECH AWARD 2019 final from an European professional, who specializes in coaching global companies.

The final presentation of the five pitches will be on 27th November 2019 during the SP Tech Week 2019, an unmissable event in the São Paulo business calendar. In the 2018 edition of the prestigious SP Tech Week, there were over 250 innovation and technology events held across various venues in São Paulo featuring at least 20 different ICT themes.

The first Brazil Tech Award 2019 is supported by various enterprises and institutions: the UK Department for International Trade;  Deloitte, one of the largest tax consultancy and business development companies, Softex, SendPulse, one of the most effective platforms for sending SMS, Web Push and emails via SMTP, F6S, one of the smartest platforms for monitoring and managing data on start-ups.
